Definitions

Active X control key:
Free software for Microsoft Internet Explorer that enables greater functionality on a web page. For example, kmoo's WebDialler uses Active X Control.

Broadband:
A communications channel that provides high-speed, high-capacity, always on, Internet and data connections. Multiple voice and data signals can be transmitted at the same time, due to the broad bandwidth. It can be ADSL, cable broadband or wireless broadband:
ADSL: A type of high-speed broadband internet connection that transmits data over regular copper
wire phone lines.
Cable: Broadband delivered over a cable TV network.
Wireless: Broadband delivered without cabling, such as radio or microwave

Hub: A device which allows you to connect multiple computers and devices together.

Call rates: The call rates that kmoo charge for your service. See www.kmoo.com.au for more information.

ISP (Internet Service Provider): A company that provides access to the Internet.

LAN (Local Area Network): A computer network for a small area, such as a home or small office.

Modem: A device that enables your home network (LAN) to connect to your broadband service
- cable or ADSL:
ADSL modem: A broadband modem designed to operate over copper wire telephone lines, enabling access to the World Wide Web and other content such as VoIP.
Cable modem: A broadband modem designed to operate over cable TV lines.

Monthly bill: kmoo bills client on one of four days each month. The bill runs fall on the 7th,14th,21st and 28th of each month. For example, if you sign up after the 28th of the month, you will be billed that day of next month and that day of each month thereafter.

My kmoo: An online account management service for kmoo Customers, which you can access via the kmoo website by typing in your username and password. My kmoo gives you access to your account details, call records, invoices and payment history. It also gives you control over some service features. When you join kmoo we confirm your user name and password in a Welcome Email.

Network Card (aka Ethernet Card or NIC - Network Interface Card): Enables computers to connect to routers/modems via an Ethernet cable.

Phone Adapter: A small device that connects your regular telephone handset to the kmoo VoIP network via your broadband connection. The phone adaptor enables calls to over the internet to any telephone number in the world. It's always free to call kmoo to kmoo.

PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network): Refers to the international and domestic telephone system based on copper wires carrying analogue voice data.

Router: A network device that enables connection from a modem to your home network. It can have features like firewall and port forwarding. It allows multiple computers to be connected. kmoo sells and recommends phone adaptors with inbuilt routers.

SoftPhone: A software program that turns your computer into a telephone and connects to kmoo's VoIP network via a broadband connection. Soft Phone can be used to call any telephone number in the world in the normal way. It's always free to call kmoo to kmoo. For best soft phone sound quality, we recommend a headset with earpiece and microphone.

Switch: A network device which enables you to connect multiple computers and devices together.
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol): Hardware and software that enable telephone calls over the Internet rather than by traditional circuit transmissions. VoIP is also referred to as Internet telephony, IP telephony, or Voice over the Internet (VOI).

WebDialler: An ActiveX control, accessible on a web page from any broadband connected computer, which enables you to make and receive phone calls directly through the computer. Kmoo's WebDialler can be used to call any telephone number in the world in the normal way. It's always free to call kmoo to kmoo. For best WebDialler sound quality, the WebDialler we usually recommend a headset with earpiece and microphone.
